Small 17th-century church in San Ferdinando, founded to shelter young Spanish women; classical façade with Ionic pilasters.

Also called the Maddalenella degli Spagnoli, this small church in the San Ferdinando district tells of viceregal Naples. It took its present name in 1634, when the vicereine, the Countess of Monterrey, moved here the residents of a conservatory founded by a Spanish noblewoman for young compatriots. The façade, restored in 2015, is simple and classical, with four Ionic pilasters and two relief roundels. Behind the high altar are three 17th-century canvases, including a Crucifix with the Magdalene. Safety works are under way.
