Baroque church on the Rettifilo, founded in 1342 by Queen Sancia; among the most harmonious examples of Neapolitan Baroque.

Overlooking corso Umberto I, on the edge of Forcella, stands Santa Maria Egiziaca, considered one of the most successful and harmonious examples of Neapolitan Baroque. It was founded in 1342 by Queen Sancia of Aragon, wife of Robert of Anjou, as a monastery for women who wished to change their lives. Between the 16th and 17th centuries it was thoroughly renovated, taking on the unified appearance we admire today.
