The 14th-century sanctuary of Piedigrotta, linked to the old September festival and to Neapolitan song; wooden image of the Virgin.

In the Piedigrotta area, at the foot of the Posillipo hill, the sanctuary of Santa Maria was built between 1352 and 1353, where a wooden image of the Virgin was already venerated. The place had been sacred for centuries, close to the ancient tunnel that linked Naples to the Campi Flegrei. The sanctuary is linked to the famous Piedigrotta festival on 8 September, which for centuries was also the great showcase of Neapolitan song. Let's go in to greet the Madonna, so dearly loved by Neapolitans.
