The church of Montecalvario, founded in 1560 and entrusted to the Franciscans of the Holy Land, overlooking the square of the same name.

On Largo Montecalvario, in the Quartieri Spagnoli, stands the church that gives the district its name. It was founded in 1560 by the noblewoman Ilaria D'Apuzzo and entrusted to the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land.In the 17th century it was enlarged with a monumental staircase and a portico, and in 1677 the interior received Baroque decoration. In the 19th century the convent became a barracks and the square a market; the Franciscans returned in 1826 and restored the church, which remains a landmark of the neighbourhood.
