Masterpiece of 18th-century Baroque by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro in Montecalvario; closed for restoration for years.

In the Quartieri Spagnoli, the church of Santa Maria della Concezione a Montecalvario is among the most interesting examples of 18th-century Neapolitan Baroque. The first place of worship dates from 1579; between 1718 and 1725 the church was rebuilt by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro. In the 20th century the complex went through many changes and restorations, including after the 1980 earthquake. Since 2016 it has been closed because of water infiltration and is undergoing works: we can admire it from outside while awaiting its reopening.
