Church rebuilt in 1547 by the Duke of Grottole, linked to the Candlemas feast and purification rites.

In the first half of the 16th century the Duke of Grottole, to enlarge his palazzo, had a chapel dedicated to the Purification of Mary demolished and rebuilt it at his own expense on this site in 1547: this is the church of Santa Maria della Candelora. The name recalls the feast of Candlemas, when candles are blessed as a symbol of Christ, light of the nations, and which coincides with the Purification of Mary. The Region lists it as open on request.
