Remains of an early medieval Lombard-era basilica, built over a Roman villa and later joined to a convent.

At Bisigliano, in the countryside of Colliano, you come across the remains of an early medieval basilica built in the Lombard period. We like to think of this place as a layered story: the church in fact rose over what remained of a Roman villa, reusing its space centuries later.Later the building was linked to a convent of nuns dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata. Today you can make out part of the single nave, some traces of frescoes and the perimeter with the façade of the later convent. We recommend visiting slowly, looking at the details of the masonry: it is a small stop for those who love archaeology.
