Church of 1581 on corso Vittorio Emanuele, linked to a light that "appeared" to fishermen in a storm; 17th-century organ.

On corso Vittorio Emanuele, above Chiaia, stands Santa Maria Apparente, founded in 1581 by Father Filippo da Perugia to house an image of the Virgin that stood in a wayside shrine. Beside it he also had a convent built. The name comes from a tradition: some fishermen, lost at sea on a stormy night, saw a light "appear" from this very hill. Inside, on a Greek-cross plan, a fine 17th-century organ stands above the entrance.
