Small 13th-century Gothic church opposite Donnaregina Nuova, with frescoes on its cross vault.

Right opposite the large church of Donnaregina Nuova, in the San Lorenzo district, is the small Santa Maria Ancillarum. The name may recall Mary's words, "behold the handmaid of the Lord", or the handmaids of Queen Mary of Hungary, who retired to the nearby monastery.Built in the 13th century in Gothic style, it preserves fine frescoes on its cross vault. The 15th-century polyptych that adorned the altar is kept elsewhere. A brief but precious stop in the Duomo area.
