Sanità district church, heir to the conservatory founded in 1275 by Pietro Leone Sicola, chancellor of Charles I of Anjou.

On vico Santa Maria Antesaecula, in the Sanità district, stands the church of Santa Maria a Sicola. Its story begins in 1275, when Pietro Leone Sicola, a nobleman of the Sedile di Forcella and chancellor of Charles I of Anjou, founded a women's conservatory with a church in the Vicaria area. The institution was later funded by the royal family with the proceeds of the tax on snow. In the 17th century it moved here to the Sanità, next to the church of Santa Maria Antesaecula.
