Small church beneath the Palazzo della Borsa, linked to the first bishop of Naples; it preserves an ancient hypogeum.

Built into the side of the Palazzo della Borsa, on via Sant'Aspreno, this little church guards one of the oldest sites of Neapolitan faith: tradition identifies it as the cave where Saint Aspren, the city's first bishop, lived.A church was built above the underground chamber before the 8th century. During the Risanamento it risked disappearing; it was saved in 1892 thanks to the monuments commission, but was redesigned. Of the old building the hypogeum and some artistic and archaeological elements remain.
