Sanctuary of 1642 in Posillipo, reached by the "Tredici discese" or the Mergellina funicular; views over the bay.

In Posillipo, the sanctuary of Sant'Antonio is reached by climbing the ramps of Sant'Antonio, the "Tredici discese" (Thirteen Descents), or by the Mergellina funicular, getting off at the first stop.It was founded in 1642 by friars of the Third Order, who built a small church and a little convent used as a place of convalescence, in what was then an almost uninhabited area. From the churchyard the view over the bay is one of the rewards of the climb: we recommend walking up at sunset.
