Former convent complex from 1564 on Piazza Bellini, with an 18th-century staircase and a church covered in stucco work by Arcangelo Guglielmelli.

Overlooking Piazza Bellini, the complex of Sant'Antonio, which Neapolitans affectionately call Sant'Antoniello, was founded in 1564. The 18th-century façade is instantly recognisable for its great double-ramp staircase rising towards the old monastery. We like climbing those steps, leaving the lively bustle of the square behind us.From the atrium you enter the single-nave church, with side chapels and a dome, entirely wrapped in stucco work attributed to Arcangelo Guglielmelli (1682-84). The works of art are no longer here: Bernardo Cavallino's Saint Cecilia is now at Capodimonte. The former convent houses a university library and the church can be visited on request.
