Church of Sant'Anastasia

In the territory of Ponte, near the River Calore, stands Sant'Anastasia, an abbey complex founded in the 8th century on a Roman-era structure along the ancient Via Latina. In 1137 a diploma of Emperor Lothair II assigned it to the Abbey of Montecassino. It was a parish seat until 1569, then underwent a long decline.Restored around 1980, it has been declared a national monument. Inside, a warrior's burial with its grave goods has also come to light, a sign of how layered this place is. We recommend visiting it at leisure: we love the idea of reading, in a single building, the transition from the Roman era to the Lombard and Cassinese Middle Ages.
