Eighteenth-century church in Materdei designed by Giuseppe Astarita in 1759, with a curved façade and a bright dome.

In the Materdei district, on via Amato di Montecassino, the church of San Raffaele was founded in 1759 to a design by Giuseppe Astarita, together with a women's conservatory that took in women wishing to change their lives. The curved façade, set back from the street, is on two storeys linked by scrolls. Inside, the Greek-cross plan is lit by a drumless dome with a large lantern. Let's look for the polychrome marble altar with its gilded crown-shaped canopy and Angelo Mozzillo's frescoes of the story of Tobias.
