Forchia's patronal church, an independent parish since 1654, enlarged in 1847 with two new aisles.

The Church of San Nicola di Mira, in Via Umberto I, is Forchia's patronal church. The first records date from 1654, when an episcopal bull separated it from the parish of Arpaia and gave it its own parish priest, chosen from among the villagers. Originally it had a single nave, a dome above the marble high altar and a wooden ceiling decorated with octagonal paintings. In 1847 the building was enlarged with the addition of two aisles and a new entrance to the south. The restoration and seismic upgrading that followed the 1980 earthquake altered most of the ceiling: only one of the original paintings has been restored and put back. We recommend looking up to find it, and pausing in front of the statue of St Nicholas, the heart of the community's devotion.
