Augustinian church of 1618 above corso Vittorio Emanuele, reached by a theatrical staircase with views over the city.

At the Gradini San Nicola da Tolentino, just above corso Vittorio Emanuele, the church is reached by a theatrical staircase. It was founded in 1618 on land given to the Augustinians by the councillor Scipione De Curtis and, after the Vesuvius eruption of 1631, housed the order's novitiate. The atrium was once a loggia open to the view, with arches later walled up, but from the staircase the view over Naples is still beautiful. Over time the convent passed to various orders; the plaques in the atrium recall devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes.
