Church on via San Biagio dei Librai linked to a home for children orphaned in Masaniello's revolt; theatrical double staircase.

Along via San Biagio dei Librai, one of the liveliest streets in Naples, a theatrical curving double staircase leads us to San Nicola a Nilo. Behind it lies a story of solidarity: after Masaniello's revolt of 1647 a grocer, Sabato Anella, took in the children left orphaned. The viceroy asked the Marquis de' Mari for help, and he donated his palazzo; beside it a small church was built, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, protector of orphans and grocers. Its present appearance, with the staircase, dates from 1705 and is the work of Giuseppe Lucchesi Prezzolini.
