Small church in Riardo, once an Augustinian convent, with a Catalan portal, 14th-century frescoes and Roman-era finds.
The Church of San Leonardo in Riardo has a layered history: founded in the Early Christian period as the Church of San Paolo, much smaller than today's, in the mid-13th century it became an Augustinian convent dedicated to St Leonard. What remains of the complex is a small cloister with a well and the stairs leading to the old cells.We like the Catalan Gothic portal and, inside, the fragments of 14th-century frescoes showing the face of Christ and St Francis. We suggest also looking at the Roman funerary cippi, including a rare marble slab, and the unusual black crucifix.
