Church · Napoli (NA)

Church founded in the Angevin-Durazzo era on Via Mezzocannone, with a 17th-century interior by Picchiatti and an altarpiece by Francesco Solimena.
Founded in the time of the Anjou-Durazzo dynasty, this church once had its entrance on the side alley of San Geronimo. When Via Mezzocannone was widened at the end of the 19th century, its orientation was reversed to open the entrance onto the new street: a curious detail we invite you to notice as you pass by, among the university buildings of the historic centre. The single nave shows the 17th-century appearance designed by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti. On the high altar we are struck by the painting by Francesco Solimena with the Madonna, the Child and Franciscan Saints. Today the church is also used as a study room by university students, and so keeps a living bond with the neighbourhood around it.
