A rare example of Romanesque architecture in Naples: three naves on reused columns, a 13th-century transept and Durazzo-Catalan arches.

Bare of works of art, this church is worth a visit for its architecture: it is in fact one of the rare examples of Romanesque architecture in Naples. The central core, from the 11th-12th century, is divided into three naves by reused columns, following a layout typical of buildings inspired by Montecassino. We like its simplicity, which lets the structure speak. In the 13th century the transept with its chapels was added, while between the 14th and 15th centuries the arches leading into the chapels and the one framing the high altar were built in Durazzo-Catalan style. We recommend taking your time to see how the different eras can be read in the walls and arches.
