One of the oldest churches in Naples, born in the 4th–5th century as an early Christian basilica and rebuilt by Cosimo Fanzago, on via Duomo.

On via Duomo, in the Pendino district, San Giorgio Maggiore takes us back to the city's Christian origins: it was built between the late 4th and early 5th century at the behest of Bishop Saint Severus, and was therefore called "the Severiana".After the fire of 1640 Cosimo Fanzago rebuilt it, reversing its orientation: today you enter right where the ancient apse used to be. That early Christian apse, with its columns, is still visible and is the reason we recommend a visit.
