Baroque church on via Medina, linked to the Genoese community of Naples and built on the site of the Commedia Vecchia theatre.

On via Medina, at the top of a 17th-century flight of steps, stands San Giorgio dei Genovesi, also called San Giorgio alla Commedia Vecchia: it was built where a theatre once stood and soon became the church of the large community of Genoese merchants. The façade is simple and elegant; the Latin-cross interior, with stucco and a dome, once held many works now largely moved elsewhere. The most famous, Saint Anthony Raising a Dead Man by Battistello Caracciolo, is in the Capodimonte Museum and shows how deeply Caravaggio marked Neapolitan painting.
