Ancient church at the crossing of San Gregorio Armeno and San Biagio dei Librai, founded in the 7th century; named after a greasy-pole elm.

Right where San Gregorio Armeno crosses via San Biagio dei Librai, in the heart of Spaccanapoli, stands San Gennaro all'Olmo. The name comes from the large elm that once grew in the little square, from which the prize for the winner of the greasy-pole contest (cuccagna) was hung. The church was founded at the end of the 7th century by Bishop Saint Agnellus, where one of the deaconries that cared for the poor and widows already stood. In the 8th century Armenian nuns fleeing iconoclasm found refuge here, with the relics of Saint Blaise: that is why it forms a single complex with the nearby church dedicated to him.
