Founded in 1325 by Robert of Anjou and Sancia of Majorca for the Poor Clares, on via Santa Chiara; 18th-century piperno façade.

On via Santa Chiara, next to the great monastery, we find the church of San Francesco delle Monache, founded in 1325 by King Robert of Anjou and Queen Sancia to house the Poor Clares while Santa Chiara was still being built. In the 16th century Giulia Gonzaga, a figure of religious reform, lived here for thirty years and was buried here in 1566. The Gothic appearance was transformed in the 17th and 18th centuries, when the theatrical façade in piperno and wrought iron was created. Today the church is the seat of a cultural foundation.
