The "artists' church" on piazza Trieste e Trento, by Cosimo Fanzago, with Baroque frescoes by Paolo De Matteis.

A stone's throw from the Teatro di San Carlo and piazza del Plebiscito, the church of San Ferdinando is known to all Neapolitans as the artists' church, because the funerals of actors, musicians and show-business figures are often held here. The Jesuits had it built in the 17th century with a donation from the vicereine, the Countess of Lemos; the final design, of 1635, is attributed to Cosimo Fanzago. As we enter, let's look up: the vault is covered by the great fresco cycle by Paolo De Matteis, from the late 17th century, among his most important works in the city.
