Elliptical church of the Piarist Fathers, designed by Giovan Battista Nauclerio, with a canvas by Francesco Solimena.

The church was founded in 1627 together with a school for the poor, established by the Piarist Fathers, including Saint Joseph Calasanz. The name comes from a painting of the Madonna of Caravaggio, the Lombard town of a famous Marian apparition. The elliptical plan was designed by Giovan Battista Nauclerio and only completed in 1758–59.Inside we like the Death of Saint Joseph by Francesco Solimena, on the first altar on the right. We also recommend the high altar, close to the manner of Giuseppe Sanmartino, topped by the Nativity of the Virgin painted by Gaetano Gigante in 1806.
