A sanctuary on the hill of Rotondi, born from an old medieval castle, heart of the devotion to the Madonna della Stella and her musketeers.

Overlooking Rotondi from above is the sanctuary of Maria Santissima della Stella, most likely built on the remains of the castrum of the De Rotundis, lords of the place from 1245. When the family moved down to the valley in 1524, the castle was turned into a church and entrusted to the Capuchins until 1560; then, because of brigand raids, it passed into the care of a hermit. Beneath the sanctuary lies the hermits' cave. The hermit venerated a Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child, now kept in the parish church; since 1705 its place has been taken by the statue donated by Cardinal Orsini. We absolutely love the Easter procession, enlivened by the arquebus shots of the "fucilieri della Stella". We also suggest the climb for the view over the Partenio mountains.
