A 17th-century arch between Pizzofalcone and the Mortelle, rebuilt in 1834 with bas-reliefs, coats of arms and a balustrade.

Walking along Via Chiaia you pass under an elegant arch: it is the bridge commissioned in 1636 by the viceroy Count of Monterey to link the Pizzofalcone hill, also called Echia, with the Mortelle hill, an offshoot of the Sant'Elmo hill. Beside it was a rather undignified ramp climbing from the street up to Pizzofalcone. In 1834 the bridge was rebuilt and the ramp gave way to a covered staircase on three levels. We suggest looking up at the round arch: on its sides are coats of arms and two female figures in bas-relief, perhaps Victories, while a geometric balustrade crowns the whole.
