A small catacomb beneath the church of San Severo alla Sanità, created by Bishop Severus, with painted arcosolia.

Beneath the church of San Severo fuori le mura lies the catacomb created by Saint Severus himself, bishop of Naples in the 4th century, who chose this place for his own burial. You go down by a staircase in the third chapel on the left of the church: the excavated area is small and corresponds more or less to the floor of the building above.Little remains today, but it moves us: a cubicle with three arcosolia, the arched tombs typical of Early Christian cemeteries, has been found. In the central one, still legible, five figures appear, including Saint Peter and Saint Januarius. We also recommend looking for traces of painted decoration.
