Norman-Swabian medieval castle of Laviano on the Olivella crag, among the most significant fortresses of the upper Sele valley.

Castello D'Anna dominates Laviano from the top of the Olivella crag. Its origins go back to the Norman age, and it was part of a system of fortifications linking the Tyrrhenian to Apulia; it then passed to various feudal families down to the D'Anna, who held it until 1865, before the municipality acquired it in the mid-20th century.Badly damaged by the 1980 earthquake, the castle remains one of the most important fortified buildings of the upper Sele valley. We like its scenic presence above the town; we suggest admiring it from outside and using it as a starting point for the trails towards Monte Eremita and Monte Marzano.
