An elegant 1870 building in the Villa Comunale, inspired by antiquity and built as a permanent exhibition of photographs of Pompeii.

Strolling through the Villa Comunale of Naples you come across this charming building, with architecture and decoration inspired by the ancient world. It was built in 1870 as the Pompeiorama, a permanent exhibition of photographs devoted to ancient Pompeii. We like this 19th-century idea of bringing the allure of the excavations into the city.In the late 19th century the casina hosted art exhibitions and, after the war, other shows promoted by the city's art circles. After a major restoration completed in 2011, it has once again become a venue for cultural events. We recommend checking the programme when you walk along the seafront.
