A historic library left to the city by Cardinal Francesco Maria Brancaccio in 1675, with rooms adorned with 18th-century stucco.

This library was born of a generous gesture: in his will of 1675 Cardinal Francesco Maria Brancaccio left his very rich collection of books for the use of the people of Naples. The library was built beside the church and hospital of the Nilo and was enriched over time by numerous donations from scholars and men of learning. You enter from the courtyard behind the church of the Nilo, dominated by a fine Catalan arch. At the end of the courtyard an open staircase divides into two flights and leads to spacious rooms decorated with 18th-century stucco. The library is currently closed: we hope to be able to visit it again soon.
