Bourbon Tunnel

The tunnel dug beneath Monte Echia for Ferdinand II, later an air-raid shelter during the war.

The tunnel was commissioned by Ferdinand II of Bourbon in the mid-19th century to link the Royal Palace with the barracks on Via della Pace. It was never completed and during the Second World War it became an air-raid shelter.Today it is visited with guides who tell the story of the cisterns, the shelters and the vintage cars and motorbikes found underground. There are easier routes and more adventurous ones.
