Bourbon Cavalry Barracks

  • Visit: about 50 min

Large 18th-century Bourbon cavalry barracks at the Ponte della Maddalena, now the Caserma Bianchini.

In piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, near the Ponte della Maddalena, stand the Bourbon cavalry barracks. As early as 1581 the viceroy built a "Cavallerizza" (riding school) here to train horses and riders, outside the eastern walls. The present building dates from the 18th century; since 1899 it has been named after Captain Edoardo Bianchini. It is an imposing example of Bourbon military architecture, visible from outside.
