The first Jesuit church in Naples, founded in 1554 next to the Collegio del Salvatore; a minor basilica since 1958.

On via Giovanni Paladino, in the heart of the historic centre, the Gesù Vecchio was the first Jesuit church in Naples, founded in 1554. It is called "old" because shortly afterwards the Society built the far larger church of the Gesù Nuovo.Next to it rose the Collegio del Salvatore, which grew for decades under the guidance of Jesuit architects. The church is also known as the sanctuary of the Immacolata di Don Placido, much venerated in the city, and has been a minor basilica since 1958.
