The Annunziata basilica, linked to the old foundling hospital and its foundling wheel.

The basilica is part of the Santa Casa dell'Annunziata complex, which for centuries took in abandoned children. The present church was rebuilt in the 18th century by Luigi Vanvitelli and his son Carlo.Next to the entrance you can still see the foundling wheel (Ruota degli esposti), where newborns were left. This is the origin of the surname Esposito, so common in Naples.
