The oldest basilica in Naples, the city's first cathedral in the 4th century, now reached from inside the Duomo.

We enter the Duomo and, from the left aisle, step into the basilica of Santa Restituta: it is the oldest church in Naples and was its first cathedral. Its foundation is attributed to the Emperor Constantine in the 4th century, probably on the site of a temple of Apollo.Originally dedicated to the Saviour, it was later called the Stefania and finally Santa Restituta, when the Angevins built the new Gothic cathedral. It is one building with three different names, and visiting it means touching the city's Christian roots.
