Basilica in the city centre that, according to tradition, holds the altar where Saint Peter prayed on arriving in Naples; frescoed vestibule.

Near corso Umberto I, the basilica of San Pietro ad Aram is linked to one of the oldest traditions in Naples: it is said to hold the Ara Petri, the altar at which Saint Peter prayed, and where he is said to have baptised Saint Candida and Saint Aspren, the first Neapolitans to convert.Because of its antiquity, in the 16th century the church was granted the privilege of celebrating a jubilee the year after Rome's. Its present appearance dates from the rebuilding of 1650–1690; in the vestibule a fresco tells the story of the baptism.
