The Franciscan basilica on Via dei Tribunali, with the excavations of Greco-Roman Naples beneath the cloister.

San Lorenzo Maggiore is one of the most important Gothic churches in Naples, built by the Angevins. According to tradition, it was here that Boccaccio first saw Fiammetta, and Petrarch stayed in the convent.Beneath the complex you can visit the excavations of the Roman macellum, with streets and shops of ancient Neapolis. The convent also houses the Opera museum.
