Fifth-century early Christian basilica in the Sanità district, next to the Catacombs of San Gennaro, inside the San Gennaro dei Poveri hospital.

In the Sanità district, inside the San Gennaro dei Poveri hospital, stands one of the oldest churches in Naples. The basilica was built in the 5th century next to the Catacombs of San Gennaro, where Saint Agrippinus and, until the 9th century, Saint Januarius himself were laid to rest.Altered several times between the Middle Ages and the 17th century, when it also became a hospital for plague victims, it retains an ancient charm with Eastern echoes. It is the ideal complement to a visit to the catacombs.
