Villino Bartolo Longo Museum in Pompei

  • Visit: about 1 h 30 min

The house museum of the founder of modern Pompei, with furniture, memorabilia and a period carriage telling the birth of the Sanctuary.

The Villino preserves the furniture that belonged to Bartolo Longo and his wife, Countess Marianna De Fusco, together with personal objects and documents linked to the founding and enlargement of the Sanctuary of Pompei. We like how the rooms also tell of the Blessed's other initiatives, from schools of printing and bookbinding to those of engraving and carving. You pass through the reconstructed bedroom, the study and a series of memorabilia that help you read the history of the modern town. At the entrance we recommend looking at the 18th-century map of the Valley of Pompei before the town was founded, and in the room on the left a black coupé carriage similar to the one Bartolo Longo used on his travels.
