The large suburban villa along the Street of Tombs, just outside the Herculaneum Gate.
The villa stands outside the walls of Pompeii, along the tomb-lined road that led towards Herculaneum. It is one of the largest residences in the city, built on several levels with a large porticoed garden.The name comes from a nearby tomb. In the cellars the bodies of some inhabitants who had sought shelter during the eruption were found.
