Sanctuary of the Public Lares

The sanctuary on the Forum of Pompeii dedicated to the Lares, protectors of the city.
The sanctuary overlooks the eastern side of the Forum and was dedicated to the public Lares, the deities who protected the community. It was probably built after the earthquake of AD 62.It has a large apse and niches that once held statues and marble decorations, now lost.
