Royal Lodge of the Calvi Estate
- Visit: about 50 min
18th-century Bourbon hunting lodge on the Calvi estate, with rooms for farm workers and quarters for the king and court.
The Calvi estate effectively became Bourbon property from the 1770s, when Charles of Bourbon and then his son Ferdinand IV gradually took possession of it. The state land was transformed above all into a hunting ground, reserved for the sovereigns' leisure. Here the Royal Lodge (Casino Reale) was built, with rooms for the farm workers on the ground floor and rooms for the king and courtiers on the first floor. After the fall of the Bourbon kingdom, the towns of Calvi and Sparanise disputed ownership of the estate. Today the building is closed and we admire it from the outside, imagining the royal hunts.
