The old estate given to Charles III in 1738 and turned into the Bourbons' great Royal Hunting Reserve of Torcino.

In 1532 Ciorlano passed to the Gaetani counts of Laurenzana, and in 1738 the Duke of Laurenzana gave Charles III of Bourbon the Torcino estate, the most beautiful part of the area. It was already a natural hunting reserve, and the king turned it into the largest of its time, the Real Caccia (Royal Hunt).Later Ferdinand IV, finding it still too small, added the neighbouring state-owned areas of Cupa Mazza, Castellone and Santa Lucia, granting the town an annual payment and allowing citizens to graze their livestock. Today the site is closed to the public: we recommend discovering its history by observing the landscape of the valley.
