Ruins of a castle of Lombard origin on Monte Solano, with a triple ring of walls and a cylindrical watchtower.
On Monte Solano stand the ruins of Roccapiemonte castle, whose origins go back to the Lombard period. Its history has been eventful: in 888 it withstood a Saracen siege, while the violent earthquake of December 1631 damaged it so badly that a few years later, in 1636, major repairs were needed, commissioned by Count Giovanni Battista Ravaschieri.Further damage came with the 1857 earthquake, but the fortress still preserves very legible sections. We recommend looking for the remains of the triple ring of walls, the two gates and the cylindrical watchtower. We like climbing up here to imagine how this stronghold controlled the valley below.
