Archaeological site · Pompei (NA)

The ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The eruption of AD 79 covered Pompeii in ash and pumice and preserved it for centuries. Today you walk along paved streets, past frescoed houses, shops, baths, theatres and the great Forum, with Vesuvius in the background. The excavations are very extensive: it is worth choosing a route, bringing water and comfortable shoes, and allowing at least four hours. Together with Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, they form part of the UNESCO site of the Archaeological Areas of the Vesuvius region.
