Regional park since 2002 spanning four provinces, with the peaks of Montevergine and Monte Avella, caves and fossils.

Established in 2002, the Partenio Regional Park embraces 22 municipalities in the provinces of Avellino, Benevento, Caserta and Naples, among the mountains and the Caudina, Sabato and Vallo di Lauro valleys. The main peaks are Montevergine, Monte Avella, the highest at almost 1,600 metres, and Ciesco Alto, while the Calore river skirts its northern sector. We are fascinated by the many caves and fossils scattered across the area, and by its history too: the Caudini and Hirpini lived here, and not far away the Samnites humiliated the Romans at the Caudine Forks. In the 12th century St William of Vercelli founded his first church here. We recommend exploring it on foot.
