Regional park established in 2003 between Irpinia and the Salerno area, with peaks over 1,800 metres and the largest water reserve in southern Italy.

The Monti Picentini Regional Park was established by the Campania Region in 2003 and embraces thirty municipalities in the provinces of Avellino and Salerno, including Nusco, Montella, Bagnoli Irpino, Acerno, Giffoni and Serino. This group of the Campanian Apennines lies between the Lattari Mountains, Partenio, the Irpinian plateau and the Sele valley, and marks the border between the two provinces. The highest peaks are Cervialto, Terminio and Polveracchio, all around 1,800 metres. We are fascinated to learn that the Picentini are considered the largest water reserve in southern Italy and the third largest in Europe: karst phenomena feed a great many springs and streams. We recommend exploring it on foot, choosing one of its many slopes.
